Case Study:
Video Streaming Solution
Project Overview:
The Problem
Video Streaming Solution platforms are not easy-to-use and don't provide multi-platform, on-demand broadcasting options
The Goal
Design a video streaming solution which also acts like an aggregator of various streaming solutions and aids in viewing and managing video content
The Product

My Role
UX designer designing a website for Video Streaming Solution from conception to delivery
My Responsibilities
Conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, and iterating on designs
Project Duration
OCT 2021
Understanding the users :
I conducted primary research and found that many current live streaming solutions having their User Interfaces not interactive, not created beautifully to attract users, not enjoyable. Also those platforms are not easy-to-use & reliable enough to make video streaming easier. Many platforms do not provide on-demand or multi-platform streaming which is a global need. Many users want a platform which will help them to connect to a specific destination which is called as “on-demand” service to stream online. Many business teams want to broadcast their events globally which means they need a platform which will be used to connect multi-platforms simultaneously. As per research, I am designing a solution which will be used as a way to watch videos and multi-platform or on-demand platform for live video streaming and which will take content responsibility and offers a free or paid subscriptions by providing service for 24/7.
User Pain Points :
Broadcasting Issues
Need live broadcasting solution over multiple platforms and on-demand platforms
Accessibility
Platforms for video streaming are not equipped with assistive technologies
Service
No instant support for technical glitches and crashing issues
Persona & Problem Statement :
Sara is a busy IT Professional who needs a best platform for video streaming because They need to arrange various meetings over multiple platforms simultaneously and They also like to refresh their minds in between from work by watching favourite video clips.
User Journey Map :
Persona: Sara
Goal: Want a easy video streaming solution web application.
Starting the design work :
Paper Wireframes
Digital Wireframes
As the initial design phase continued, I made sure to base screen designs on feedback and findings from the user research and reformed earlier wireframes as per user needs.
Usability Study Findings
I conducted two rounds of usability studies. Findings from the first study helped guide the designs from wireframes to mockups. The second study used a high-fidelity prototype and revealed what aspects of the mockups needed refining.
Round 1 Findings :
Back button functionality was missing
Round 2 Findings :
Option of a custom suscription is beneficial for many users
Refining the designs:
Key Mockups
Worked on earlier wireframes to make high fidelity mockups.
Accessibility Considerations :
- Screen Readers
Provided access to users who are vision impaired through adding alt text to images for screen readers
2. Icons
Used icons to
help make
navigation easier
3. Color
I followd WCAG guidelines to consider accessibility within colors
High-Fidelity Prototype :
The final high-fidelity prototype presented cleaner user flow throughout all screens. I updated subscription plans and back button functionality after usability study findings and now all over design meets user needs to watch various TV shows, videos, tutorials, series and play video games with that broadcasting on multiple platforms as well as on-demand platform.
Takeaways:
Impact
The website makes users feel like multi-platform and on-demand broadcasting became easy.
One quote from peer feedback:
“I can conduct the meeting on various platforms simultaneously”
What I learned
While designing the video streaming solution, I learned that users wanted to get recommendations, notifications for their favorite shows and they want functionality 'save for later' too
Going Forward:
- Testing
Conduct another round of usability studies to validate whether the pain points users experienced have been effectively addressed
2. User Research
Conduct more user research to determine any new areas of need
